Beccy Robinson
Position:
Nursery Class Teacher

Hi, my name is Beccy and I have been working at Brougham Street Nursery school since January 2016 as a Special Educational Needs Learning Support Assistant. I can honestly say I have loved every minute of working here. When the opportunity arose to become one of the teachers here at nursery school, I just could not refuse! I am so excited about all the things that we will learn together and getting to know you all that I think I actually might burst! I can’t wait. I I have lots of exciting and fun ideas planned that we will explore together such as “why did the turnip grow so big?” I will be sharing green group with Alison which I am equally excited about. Before I get to know you all, I think it is only fair that you find out a little bit about me!

I grew up in Boston in Lincolnshire with my parents and older sister Rachael. I moved to Essex University to study for a BA in Psycholinguistics, which is where I met David, who has now been my husband since 1999. When I had gained my degree in 1998 I moved to Reading University where I studied for my PGCE in primary education and qualified as a teacher in 1999. I taught in a primary school in Jaywick, Essex for a few years before moving to teach in Letchworth, Hertfordshire. I put my career on hold for many years to raise my family. I have 3 children: Andrew who is 17, Hannah who is 15 and Jessica who is 10. They keep me very busy! So do my 4 cats.

I have a few hobbies. I absolutely love running! I run nearly every day. It has been my dream for a number of years to be able to run a marathon distance. I am slowly getting closer to that dream, I can now manage 18 miles so only a few left to go! I am trying to get better at fell running. Growing up in Lincolnshire was very different to here, the landscape was a flat as a pancake and not a hill to be seen anywhere! I still find them challenging but I am determined to conquer those hills one day!

I also love going out on my bike. My son and daughter absolutely love going out on their bikes too. This is a hobby that I discovered during lockdown. It began just by popping out on a battered old bike around the housing estates for a bit of daily exercise, now I go out with my son as often as we can into the dales on a much better bike! I just love the feeling of freedom when I run and bike, and to be quite honest, I am addicted to it!

My other hobby is decorating cakes. I am not that great at it, but my children constantly challenge me at birthdays as they request more and more elaborate cakes each year! They have significantly improved over the years. One of my first cakes was a cat, and my daughter at age 2 was adamant it was a rabbit. The traction engine that I made for my son’s third birthday had collapsed before he got to see it. More recent successes have been on a Dr Who, Star Wars or Harry Potter theme.

This year is going to be really busy, but huge amounts of fun. If ever you want to share your child’s successes with us, or need and help or advice because you have any concerns, we are here to listen!
