Staff Profile

Name:
Ann Almack
Position:
Early Years Practitioner Nursery School

My name is Ann Almack, I have been a part of the Skipton community all of my life. Upon leaving school I worked in the retail industry which I really enjoyed working on the shop floor, then administration and worked my way up to manager. I finished this career to begin my family and I am a very proud mum to Paige who is 24 and Peter who is now 21 and I have the love and support of my husband Andrew for the last 29 years. As my husband worked overseas, we made the decision for me to be a stay at home mum until Paige and Peter began school.

When Paige was in her 3rd year of Primary school I began to help out at her school and I found that I really enjoyed working with children and the rewards and the challenges that it bought…this was the beginning of my new career, the seed was planted!

I went to college and gained my qualification as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant and continued working at Parish Church School voluntarily for a number of years supporting children of all ages and abilities.

Opportunity came along to continue working with children at Brougham Street Nursery in 2003, where I gained my ‘Level 3 Diploma in Early Learning and Childcare’. I have been privileged to have worked in all the rooms within Brougham Street: the baby room and the Toddler room where I spent 8 fabulous years; before returning to the Nursery room 2 years ago where I am the Key Person for Red Group.

I have gained a huge amount of knowledge and experience working with children and have continued my training throughout my time at Brougham Street, not only to expand my own knowledge of working with children, but to help and support each child individually to reach their full potential. I enjoy working closely with parents/guardians and as part of the cohesive Nursery School team. I am fully trained in Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding, Educational Visits out of nursery, Food Handling, dietary needs and most recently I have completed courses in Woodwork for Early years and for Epilepsy for Teachers.
